Residents React to Hate Crime

A recent hate crime in the Black/African-American Studies interest floor of Santa Rosa Residence Hall has spurred students to spread the word about racism on campus, even by going door to door to do it. While the majority of the students from the floor was away at the African Black Coalition (ABC) Conference on April 29, the words “Fuck Niggers” were written on the women’s bathroom door, Josiah Bournes, the resident assistant of the floor, said. He said a police report was filed on Monday but there are currently no leads as to who wrote the racial slur.

Officers Arrest Man for Alleged I.V. Kidnapping

A man is being held in Santa Barbara County Jail on six charges, including kidnapping and assault, stemming from a domestic dispute with his girlfriend Sunday evening. Brandon Howe, a visitor to the area, has been charged with kidnapping, imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery.

Baseball: Gauchos To Welcome Bruins to Caesar Uyesaka

After a heartbreaking series loss against #4 Cal State Fullerton, the UCSB baseball team takes a break from conference play to face UCLA this afternoon. The Gauchos (20-23 overall, 6-9 in the Big West) won Saturday’s game against the Titans and on Sunday came within two outs of nabbing their second straight Big West series win.
