Despite a tournament arrangement that left the #5 UCSB women’s lacrosse team in an unfavorable position, the Gauchos were able to rebound from a first-round loss to win their last two games of the Intercollegiate Association’s National Championships last weekend in Dallas.
There’s a new craze sweeping Isla Vista. In case you haven’t heard, the cookiewich from I.V. Drip is the hottest thing since alcohol getting you drunk. The cookiewich is exactly what it sounds like: a cool scoop of ice cream sandwiched between two freshly baked cookies.

There is always one man that, no matter how sad or tired or depressed you are, can make you smile and ride off with feelings of inspiration, encouragement and joy. That man is the beer vendor. To be honest, he is not really a man. He is more like God’s right hand angel delivering happiness from his beer-heaven truck.
While bands jammed, hippies danced and politicians pushed law changes, a group of aspiring UCSB festival planners took extensive mental notes at UC Davis’s long-running annual Whole Earth Festival. Nearly 30,000 students and visitors descended upon the Northern California university for its 37th year of advocating environmental sustainability, green technology, nonviolence and a healthy party atmosphere. Among the throngs of people were 19 students from UCSB’s Sociology 194 class, which is planning the Chilla Vista festival slated for June 4 in Isla Vista.

There is something about the black and yellow of Long Beach State that brings out the best in UCSB baseball. The Gauchos (23-24 overall, 8-10 in the Big West) took the first two games from the second-place 49ers 8-6 and 4-1 before falling 3-1 in the finale. Santa Barbara has taken seven of the last nine from the Dirtbags (27-23, 10-5 Big West).
The university administration has decided to treat its students like children. Over the next few months, UCSB officials will discuss whether the university will punish students for alcohol, drug and arson – read: couch burning – offenses that occur in Isla Vista. In 2001, administrators extended their jurisdiction into I.V., subjecting students accused of rape, assault, sexual harassment and hazing to hearings before the university’s Student-Faculty Committee on Student Conduct, which has the power to suspend or expel students.
