The UCSB women’s tennis team, in a flurry of action over Spring Break, managed to defeat three out of the five teams they faced. The Gauchos now hold a record of 12-7 overall and 5-1 in Big West action.

While most UCSB students spent their Spring Break resting and relaxing, deputies at the Isla Vista Foot Patrol spent the week dealing with burglaries and broken windows. IVFP Lt. Sol Linver said the overall amount of crime in I.V. during the break was about average, but deputies from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept. did arrest a convicted burglar on Sunday, March 26, after he attempted to steal money from six local stores.
In what turned out to be a six-hour long meeting, Associated Students Legislative Council passed nine bills and approved a new constitution to be placed on the spring ballot.

On Monday, March 27, 40,000 high school students staged a walkout across Southern California. It seemed that most reporters who covered the story touched on the idea that perhaps many of the students did not quite understand the depth of the issue and just wanted a day off of school or a chance to be heard.
Former UCSB student Christian Covarrubias will serve nine months in the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of felony sexual assault and felony false imprisonment. Covarrubias entered into a plea bargain on Feb. 10, which put him on five-year probation and requires him to register as a sex offender and attend various therapy treatments.
