On a dirt track nestled in the hills of Santa Barbara, Chris Burke soars through the air on his bike. The 22 year-old phenom traverses the track that he helped design at Elings Park so fast that if you blink you might miss him take a turn or launch six feet into the air.

Two local banks, Hospice of Santa Barbara and the son of a local celebrity are teaming up to help the families of the seven people killed by Jennifer San Marco on Jan. 30. The downtown branch of the South Coast Community Federal Credit Union is collecting donations for the victims’ families. Deborah Barajas, supervisor of the branch, said people have donated approximately $5,000 so far.

Former UCSB student Christian Covarrubias is facing probation and potential jail time after pleading guilty to charges of felony false imprisonment and felony sexual assault. Covarrubias, a former freshman and resident of the Francisco Torres Residence Hall (FT), entered into a plea bargain with the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office last Friday.
