Campus Planning and Design is looking for suggestions from students, faculty and staff to improve the appearance and usability of the area between Davidson Library and Girvetz Hall today and tomorrow.

The university is planning a massive overhaul of Library Plaza within the next several years – a project that would involve replacing most of the underground utilities that run through the area and redesigning the landscaping, according to a press release from the department.

Campus Planning and Design said the area is “seriously lacking elements of good urban design,” and hope to “activate the space and make it memorable,” the press release said. In an effort to involve the UCSB community in the redesign, students have been invited to discuss their ideas for improving the frequently traversed area with the project’s designers at special workshops today at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and tomorrow at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. The workshops will be held in the Mary Cheadle Room, located on third floor of the Davidson Library

University design consultants will present the results of the workshops in the Mary Cheadle Room at 3:30 p.m. Friday, according to the press release.
