Working on Halloween night is the equivalent of getting really high and drunk at work.
This weekend’s field trip to Arizona for the women’s and men’s swim teams offered some valuable lessons. The UCSB women’s team defeated Arizona State (1-1 overall) 170.5 to 163.5 and lost to Penn State (2-0 overall) 64.5 to 102.5, while the men’s team lost to the Sun Devils (2-0 overall) 161 to 173. The decisions put the Gaucho women at 2-2 overall and the men at 0-1.
Last year, I spent my Halloween night in the library studying. If you’re in class right now, there’s a good chance you were doing the same last night. Or maybe you’re just a good kid. Today, Nov. 1, has for years been a day of much reflection, recuperation and re-hydration for the UCSB undergrad.
While more cars may have been towed from Isla Vista and UCSB than last year, local law enforcement officers are saying that this year’s operations ran with fewer hitches than they have before.
As wild as your weekend may have been, the UCSB men’s cross country team had quite a crazy weekend of its own at the Big West Championships in Riverside. In a finish that came down to the wire, the Gauchos were just barely edged out by unanimous conference-favorite #27 Cal Poly, finishing only 14 points behind.
I have a story about abuse of our fellow players. The story is set at a popular casino in Las Vegas. Over four years ago I was told that I could no longer play blackjack there, but I was free to play any other game. I often returned to play poker in their clean, smoke-free and pleasant environment. On this particular day, I sat down to play around 7 a.m.
While the pockets of their newly purchased pants might be a little emptier than usual, local shopaholics will be able to spend their cash on new denim and other designer clothing this week knowing that their money is going to a worthy cause.
The UCSB women’s cross country team finished in second place at the Big West Championship Saturday, losing out to Irvine, whose women took three of the top six finishes. Junior Bethany Nickless and senior Seanna Martin took home All-Conference honors, finishing fifth and seventh respectively to pace the Gauchos, who still finished ahead of Big West rivals Long Beach, Northridge and Riverside.
PunkyBrister68: What should I write my column about?
Megarde05: I dunno. Halloween?
PunkyBrister68: I did that last week. Didn’t you see it?
Megarde05: Nope. What’d you say?
PunkyBrister68: That everyone dresses like sluts.
Megarde05: Nice.
