Polic Blotter: October 21, 2005

Saturday, October 15, 1:25 a.m. – Officers patrolling Camino del Sur observed a 20-year-old man walking north through the intersection of Trigo Road, waving a U-lock in the air. Deputies watched the man, who had soiled his clothing, yell profanities and throw the U-lock on the ground.

Fortune Cookie Crooky

It’s good to be the weatherhuman. Not only do you get to say whatever the hell you want to 20,000 people (well, let’s be honest: 2,000,000 people), you get to be in control of the weather.

Women’s Club Soccer: Gauchos Dominate at UCSB Invitational

After hosting its second annual invitational tournament this weekend, featuring the top teams in the region, the UCSB women’s club soccer team remains undefeated. The Gauchos played Long Beach on Saturday morning, winning 3-0. Next, UCSB took on Davis Saturday night, earning another win, 4-1.

Brake for Slippery Sex

Foreplay? Fore-PLEASE. If I run across one more kid who thinks it is proper etiquette to just stick it in, I’m going to scream. Why can’t we be more like the French – a minimum of three orgasms before penetration? I’d even settle for the four hours of begging that Jewish foreplay entails. Anything would be better than the Isla Vista buildup of five beer bongs and the eventual letdown after four minutes of disinterested bouncing.

Los Alamos Lab and UCSB Devise Plans for New Institution

While the competition for management of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) continues, the University of California has co-founded a new institute with the lab, focusing on materials research and nanotechnology.

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

I was sitting on the bus the other day and heard some young women from Ohio complaining about the California weather – they said they missed the seasons. At first, I thought they were crazy. Sure, the change of seasons in Santa Barbara is less harsh than in Cincinnati, but what is there to miss about that? But they had me thinking about seasons and I realized that they might be onto something. I, too, miss a season – basketball season.

Students Urged to Bring Out Their Vote

I recently read several articles about the involvement of students and student government in the statewide election. I want to comment on the efforts of UC students in this election and why it is so vital to have an active role in our electoral process.

Free Parking Treat Averts Auto Tricks

Students can save their cars from the ghosts, ghouls and drunken revelers haunting the streets of Isla Vista during Halloween weekend with a special parking permit. The permit, which is free and available only to UCSB students living in Isla Vista, is valid for parking in a fenced-off dirt lot on Storke Field from Oct. 28 at noon through Nov. 1 at 8 a.m., said Bob Sundberg assistant director of Transportation and Parking Services (TPS).

Both Genders Protest Sexual Assault, Rapes

Male and female students are joining forces to combat rape and sexual assault as the third annual “I Want a Truce” campaign kicks off today. Sponsored by the Women’s Center and UCSB Rape Prevention Education Program, the “I Want a Truce” campaign aims to keep this weekend sexual violence-free, educating students about sexual assault and rape prevention efforts along the way.
