The Santa Barbara City Council voted unanimously to oppose the expansion and continuation of offshore drilling facilities along the Santa Barbara coastline Tuesday, and to endorse the creation of a solar power energy project for city-owned buildings.

As a gay male I have very strong opinions quite different from those in Ms. Joaquin’s column (“Rally Toward Equality,” Daily Nexus, May 1.) First of all, let me address her concerns that the military is one big propaganda machine.
UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang declined to sign a petition by a group of 20 protesters who stormed Cheadle Hall on Monday afternoon and demanded he support a ban of military recruiters on campus. Carrying signs and flags, members of the Associated Students Student Commission on Racial Equality (SCORE) and other students marched from Storke Plaza to the university’s Military Science Dept. building and then to Cheadle Hall, protesting what they called discriminatory policies.
To finish the season, complying winds swept the UCSB sailing team into fifth place at the Pacific Coast Championships (PCC). Hosted by Long Beach, the PCC was held at the United States Sailing Center (USSC) on April 29 through May 1, where ample amounts of wind blew consistently throughout the weekend, providing suitable sailing conditions.
On Friday, April 29, I sat in my Anthropology 3 lecture, watching as the professor set up his computer, loading his power point presentation, when I felt an unexpected tap on my shoulder. I turned to see an officer of the I.V. Foot Patrol standing behind me, demanding my presence outside. I followed him out and he gave me orders to remove my wallet and sit down.
At its Monday afternoon meeting, Associated Students Finance Board gave away its remaining $185 and debated what advice to give to Legislative Council about next year’s budget.
