I was never an athlete in high school. I did, however, secretly want to join the girl’s lacrosse team – solely because they got to wear plaid skirts that I totally would’ve rocked on a regular day, a la “Clueless,” and because I thought the idea of running around a field with sticks felt very tribal-chic.
Ian says he has been standing in front of the Santa Maria Courthouse every day for the past four months. Before he responds to any questions about his views on the Michael Jackson case, he asks a question of his own. “What’s your favorite Michael Jackson song?” Ian asks. To the tune of “Black or White,” he breaks into song and performs the accompanying dance moves. He flails his arms and gyrates his shoulders to the beat.

Apparently, the UCSB women’s track and field team loves a good challenge. The women won their second straight Big West Challenge Cup at Long Beach on Saturday, while the Santa Barbara men finished third in the four-school event.
An Isla Vista resident was arrested early Sunday morning on felony DUI charges following a high-speed collision on Highway 101. Around 1:40 a.m., Toru Ogawa, 25, allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, rear-ended a 1992 Ford Escort driven by 21-year-old Goleta resident Ali Jamalzadeh in a northbound lane of the freeway at Fairview Avenue.
