STAGE Contest to Join Art, Science

In an attempt to merge art with science, thespians and theorists are uniting forces. The Professional Artists Lab, a division of the Film Studies Dept, and the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI), a research partnership between UCSB and UCLA, have collaborated to create the first-ever International STAGE Script Competition for plays written about science and technology.

Women’s Water Polo: Trojans Defeat Santa Barbara 11-5

For the second time this year, the UCSB women’s water polo team was unable to keep up with defending national champion USC. The Gauchos (13-11 overall, 4-7 in the MPSF) kept things close throughout the first half, but the Trojans (20-3 overall, 10-1 MPSF) broke the game wide open by scoring five goals in the third quarter to pull away for an 11-5 victory.

After seven consecutive road games, the UCSB women’s water polo team was unable to come away with a win in its first game at Campus Pool in five weeks. The #9 Gauchos could not overcome an early three-goal deficit, eventually losing to #4 Hawaii by a score of 8-4.
