Arts & Lectures will be presenting a screening of sci-fi mega-classic “Godzilla,” uncut and newly printed in 35mm. This Japanese classic paved the way for countless films like “Ghostbusters,” “Pearl Harbor” and “Legends of the Fall,” to name a few. The screening will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Campbell Hall. Get ready to be teleported back to the ’80s, when hair was big, pants were pink and spandex, and metal reigned supreme. Tonight’s a good night to take a trip down to Los Angeles. Singer-songwriter extraordinaire Jesse Malin will be performing at the Troubador. Malin is touring the country in support of his current release The Heat, an album that reveals the influence of Bruce Springsteen on his work and his love for the Clash. Tickets are $12 at www.ticketmaster.com. The show is all ages and starts at 8 p.m. The Troubador is located at 9081 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood. Also tonight, UCSB’s premier comedy troupe Improvability will be taking the stage at Embarcadero Hall. Their high-energy performance is sure to entertain every time. I.V. LIVE is back in swing this Saturday with a full lineup of entertainment. The night will include Epic-signed artist Susie Suh, local band Rey, a live DJ and other performers. The event will be held at Embarcadero Hall and will go from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission is $4 at the door. Also tonight, as part of the “Sings Like Hell” concert series, Glen Phillips will be hosting a special mystery date concert. Nobody has yet said who’ll be performing, but the people at the Lobero Theatre say that these evenings have historically been among the most magical of Sings Like Hell’s offerings. On Sunday, indie rock up-and-comers the Arcade Fire will be performing at the Troubador. Their newest album Funeral was named best of the year by www.pitchforkmedia.com. Needless to say, these folks are making some major waves in the rock music scene. There are two shows, one at 6:30 p.m. and one at 9:30 p.m. Both shows are all ages. Tickets are $13 at www.ticketmaster.com. On Monday, modern folk/pop/rock singer-songwriter David Wilcox will be performing at SOhO. Arts & Lectures presents Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam. Simmons, the so-called godfather of hip hop and founder of Def Jam Records, presents an all-star roster of nine young poets speaking about love, dreams, self-respect, politics and more. The performance will be held at Campbell Hall at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45/general and $19/students. Also tonight, A.S. Program Board presents a screening of mock-horror/comedy “Shaun of the Dead.” Described as “a romantic comedy with zombies,” the film is was one of 2004’s surprise hits. The screening will be in I.V. Theater 1. There are showings at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Tickets are $5/general and $3/students.

The A.S. Program Board also presents another installment in its free noontime concerts series. The funk-rock band Fredalba, who describe themselves as “an eclectic mix of sonic art and culture corralled into a funky, energetic burst of uplifting might,” will be performing in Storke Plaza from noon to 1 p.m. Later on, the MultiCultural Center will be presenting “An Evening of Hapa Shorts.” Several short films dealing with multi-ethnic Asian-American identity will be screened. A discussion of the films with Kip Fulbeck, Dept. of Art chair, will follow the screenings. The event will be held at the MultiCultural Center Theater from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
