The firefighters at Station 11, on Storke Road just north of the UCSB Francisco Torres Residence Hall, say they have most of the addresses in their coverage area memorized. Before the dispatcher can specify which of the 15 Santa Barbara County Fire Dept. stations is closest to the emergency, the six-man crew is either halfway out the door, or the television volume is back up.
UCSB Gets Grant for Rec Dept. Program
With a new grant from a local foundation, UCSB hopes to provide more physical and recreational activities for the disabled. The Bialis Family Foundation of Santa Barbara gave UCSB $75,000 in mid-December to establish a recreation program that would serve children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities.
Gauchos Overpower Quincy
Two hours after the first ball was served, the UCSB men’s volleyball team walked out of Rob Gym victorious, defeating Quincy 3-1 on Tuesday night. The Gauchos, now undefeated after their first contest of the season, dropped the Hawks 30-18, 30-25, 23-30, 30-25.
