Pond Fish Stay Alive, Healthy in Storke Plaza

The tiny fish that call Storke Plaza Pond home are not in danger of dying out despite being a meal of choice for the many birds that visit the area. The pond, created in June 2003 by Santa Barbara Ponds Unlimited to replace the reflecting pool, is home to a variety of fish, plants and other organisms.

Despite a disappointing 3-1 loss to Northridge on Friday night, the UCSB men’s volleyball team rallied to defeat Stanford 3-0 and Irvine 3-0 and captured fifth place in the 40th annual UCSB/Elephant Bar Collegiate Invitational on Saturday night in Rob Gym.

Over Winter Break, I drove onto campus and walked around. I was struck by the changes I have seen since I came here in 1967. The campus has become much more crowded and much less pleasing over the past 36 years.

Aggies Drop Gauchos at T-dome

The Gauchos need a New Year’s resolution fast. The UCSB men’s basketball team squandered a late six-point second-half lead against Utah State on Thursday night in the Thunderdome, dropping the game 74-67 and falling to one for two in the Big West standings.

Santa Barbara Disposes of Utah State

Entering Thursday’s game against Santa Barbara, Utah State hoped they would mount a competitive effort against the eight consecutive Big West champs. Their mission failed. The UCSB women’s basketball team dominated the Aggies throughout much of the night and defeated Utah State 86-51 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
