Editor, Daily Nexus,

I am responding to your Friday, Oct. 15 printing of the column titled “Americans Ought to Select a More Palatable President” (Daily Nexus, Oct. 15). Elia, you suggest that our current president has erased decades of good relations between the United States and Europe, as well as a sense of European admiration for the nation that America has been.

Your name sounds Italian and, as an American with a home in Italy, I would like for you to consider with me the ignorance that you displayed in your article. I suppose it never occurred to you that one of the things that so many nations admire about our great nation is the ability to have conflicting opinions in an open political forum (see The Federalist Papers, etc.).

For every Italian/European I have met who opposes President George W. Bush and what our nation stands for today, I have met one who endorses it. If you are Italian, I suggest you take a look at the stance your nation has taken on Bush’s foreign policy. You will find that it contradicts the message you gave in your column.
