Freshmen making the move from the dorms to Isla Vista next year can receive some advice and guidance at a workshop Tuesday night so they don’t get screwed by lousy landlords or roommates.

The informational workshop, hosted by A.S. Legal Resource Center, the Community Housing Office and the I.V. Tenants Union, will be held at 8 p.m. in the San Miguel formal lounge. Megan Gilbroter of the Legal Resource Center said the goal of the workshop is to provide current dorm residents with tips for moving into I.V.

“We tell them to make sure to pay close attention to the condition of the house when they move in so they can get their full security deposit back,” she said. “The point is to make sure they know the best ways to move in.”

Representatives from the Legal Resource Center, the Community Housing Office and the I.V. Tenants Union will each make a presentation on a different aspect of the moving process, from subleasing and legal issues to resolving disputes among roommates.

“We’re just going to make sure freshmen have the best moving experience possible,” Gilbroter said.
