Do women really get that jealous about another women’s breasts? I ask this because that, I think, would be the only reason for Amanda Maffett to get upset about the Super Bowl incident and, likewise, the Nexus printing pictures.

Amanda, in your letter (“Artsweek Further Exposes Janet’s Star-Spangled Boob,” Daily Nexus, Feb. 6), you mention that the Nexus is a free press, but say that you are ashamed of it for printing the photos ad nauseam. Would you rather have a censored press or one that does not report the news? Personally, I would rather see Janet Jackson’s boob – well, really I wish they had stripped Justin Timberlake naked – than a car accident, a starving child or bombs over Baghdad.

This brings me to my next point. Why the big deal? Why turn this into “news”? It was a publicity stunt; there have been many before and there will be many more to follow. The fact that such hoopla is being created about it only makes it into a self-perpetuating system that has escalated to ridiculous proportions.

Some say they were offended because their kids were watching. If they are old enough to realize what it was then it shouldn’t be a big deal. If her tit didn’t fly out, would anyone have made a big deal about Janet and Justin’s bump-n-grind choreography? Why were the beer commercials not attacked if the corrupting-the-youth argument is being made?
