Tonight at 8, UCSB Hillel will host a comedy night in Hillel’s Social Hall at 781 Embarcadero Del Mar.

Jewish comedian Scott Blakeman and Arab-American comedian Dean Obeidallah will perform their act “Standup for Peace” in support of a nonviolent solution to Middle Eastern conflicts. The duo has been touring campuses across the country performing its act, which pokes fun at politics, their respective cultural and religious backgrounds, and their families. The group last performed at the UCLA Hillel on Monday.

Hillel Vice President Tami Wheatley said the show expresses both sides of the current political turmoil in the Middle East.

“I get frustrated because every event out there that’s about the Middle East is one-sided. We just wanted to promote the human side of everything that’s going on,” Wheatley said. “There is more than just one side, even though we don’t always see it.”

Admission to the event is free and dessert will be served for everyone in attendance.

“We really want to welcome everybody into our home, Hillel, and show that we really do want peace,” Wheatley said. “We really want everybody to come.”
