The Citizens for County Organization (CFCO) ended its petition drive on Tuesday with approximately 36,000 signatures. The group of North County residents has been petitioning since April 2002 to put a measure on the 2006 ballot that would, if passed, split Santa Barbara County in two.

Rather than face a trial, three men and a teenage boy arrested for the rape of a 15-year-old girl at a Goleta elementary school accepted a plea bargain on Tuesday. The three were arrested and charged with rape, unlawful sex with a minor, rape of an intoxicated person and child molestation.
