In a board meeting Thursday, the California Coastal Conservancy will make the final decision as to whether to disburse $453,000 to Santa Barbara County to work on at least six fish passage improvement projects in local coastal streams.

Some UCSB students were surprised this year by the appearance of Storke Plaza’s new Pond Restoration Project. The pond, whose previous incarnations include a seagull birdbath and the world’s largest ashtray, is now inhabited by a variety of fish and aquatic plants.
The UCSB women’s cross country team landed in the top ten after flying through the grassy, rolling hills of Iowa on Saturday. The women finished ninth and the men took 21st out of 35 teams at the Pre-National Invitational at Irv Warren Park in Waterloo, Iowa.
People in this society who are committed to reducing sexual assault fall under a common misconception that must be clarified. We are dedicated to the end of rape and sexual assault, not sex! In fact, many of us happen to love sex, practice it as often as possible and be quite good at it.
Thanks to the students of UCSB, the Office of Student Life can now offer funds to student organizations sponsoring alternative activities to the party scene in Isla Vista. Undergraduate student fees this year include a $1.75 OSL lock-in fee for the Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters, and a $1 lock-in for the summer.
Senior midfielder Memo Arzate recorded four assists last week to claim a share of the Big West Conference career assists record with 31. For his efforts, Arzate earned Big West Player of the Week and was placed on College Soccer News’ Team of the Week.
Between Oct. 23 and Oct. 26, UCSB’s Rape Prevention Education Program will initiate a new campaign entitled, “I Want a Truce.” This campaign seeks as its goal three days without sexual assault in our community.
