Santa Barbara swept all four games at home this weekend against University of Nevada, Reno and St. Mary’s in California. The Gauchos (19-7, 0-0 in the Big West) received superb pitching in all four games from senior pitcher Loren Thornburg and freshman pitcher Carly Harmon, who pitched two games apiece.

The harder the UCSB men’s volleyball team tries, the harder they fall. The Gauchos were beaten in five games Friday night at # 8 Pacific, 26-30, 30-28, 22-30, 30-20 and 15-9. Santa Barbara lost again the next night at Stanford, 31-33, 30-21, 30-20, 30-26.
Throughout my four years at UCSB, I have diligently read the Nexus almost every morning, interested to see what is affecting the UCSB campus and its students. I was absolutely horrified, however, to read last Thursday’s ad supplement.
A group of local endangered amphibians are waiting for the government to designate them a home. “They said that a critical habitat would be beneficial to the species, but they still missed the deadline,” Karen Krauss, an attorney for the Environmental Defense Center, said.
All signs pointed toward a UCSB victory in Thursday night’s basketball match against Long Beach State – including three new digital signs purchased by the university. The signs, which arrived late last week, look similar to those seen on freeways.
