‘Twas the season for taking, apparently.

Several Isla Vista residents reported burglaries to their vacant homes during or immediately after the winter break.

Sean Bertrand, a resident of the 6700 block of Sabado Tarde Road, reported a burglary to his home and the theft of his stereo on the evening of Dec. 21. Bertrand said the alleged thief had entered through a window.

Jared Spangley, a resident of the 6600 block of Sueno Road, reported the theft of a watch box containing $160 in 20-dollar bills on Dec. 24.

On Christmas Day, Leslie Ho reported the unlawful entry of two unidentified individuals into her home on the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive. According to police reports, Ho and her mother, who was visiting, saw two men in her living room at about 1:35 a.m. The only missing items were Ho’s keys and two U-Lock-style keys.

Jessica Banks reported the vandalism of her car and the theft of several articles inside it on Dec. 30. Banks said someone had torn the soft cover of her car, which was parked outside her residence on the 6600 block of DP. Among the stolen items were the faceplate of her stereo, several CDs and her stereo’s remote control.

On Jan. 4, Malisa Lee reported a burglary to her residence on the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde. Lee told I.V. Foot Patrol officers she and her roommate had returned from break and realized their DVD player, a computer tower, a printer and several other computer-related articles were missing.

Ariel Ogilvie, a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, reported the theft of two surfboards from a storage closet used by her sorority. Ogilvie said anyone who belonged to or was a guest of Alpha Delta Pi would have had access to the closet during the break.

Upon returning from break, Jennifer Jardine reported the theft of her bicycle from her residence on the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde.

On Jan. 7, Kristopher Bean reported a vehicular burglary resulting in the theft of an undisclosed number of personal effects.

Also on that day, I.V. resident Bret Cohune reported a burglary to a storage unit on the 6500 block of Seville Road. Cohune and his bandmates were using the unit as a makeshift practice studio. Cohune told police some cymbals, drums and microphones were among the stolen items, although several more expensive items had not been stolen. Cohune said the unit must have been burglarized sometime on Jan. 6.
