Editor, Daily Nexus,

I was reading Beth Van Dyke’s “Wednesday Hump” (“Keep Your Orifices Open,” Daily Nexus, Nov. 6, 2002), when I noticed a fact I know to be false. Ms. Van Dyke says, “the only legally sanctioned sexual act in the United States is private heterosexual intercourse between married adults.”

I just took a sex education course this summer devoted a whole class to the legality of sex in the U.S. that clearly contradicts this statement. What Ms. Van Dyke said is certainly correct in many parts of the country, but not in others. Sex laws are under the jurisdiction of the state, and many states, such as our own dear California, legalize everything except for prostitution, child pornography, sex with minors and public sex.

I just thought I’d share this little bit of information with a community that I think would care to get the facts straight on this topic.
