Seven suspects standing trial for the videotaped assault of a Santa Barbara City College freshman pleaded no contest on Tuesday to charges of misdemeanor battery and felony false imprisonment.

Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa said Charles Anderson, 19, Patrick Mueller, 20, David Rhodes, 19, Matthew Blessing, 19, Joshua Burns, 20, Gregg Singer, 20, and Scott Carter, 19, will be sentenced June 17.

Adam De La Fuente, 18, pleaded no contest to one count of misdemeanor battery and received a sentence of 30 days in jail and three years probation last October.

The other seven defendants stood trial for the Sept. 15 videotaped assault of a 19-year-old SBCC freshman that wandered into Blessing, Mueller, and Anderson’s apartment on the 6600 block of Trigo Road. The defendants gave the victim shots of alcohol until he became unconscious. The suspects then proceeded to disrobe the victim, write on his face and genitals, urinate on him and ultimately place him on a couch in the middle of Trigo Road and dump garbage on him.

An anonymous source gave a copy of the videotape to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol station on June 4, which turned the tape over to the Major Crimes Unit of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Dept.

Originally, the District Attorney’s office charged Anderson, Blessing, Singer, Carter and Burns with the felony charges of unlawfully administering an intoxicating agent with intent to commit a felony, kidnapping, and battery with serious bodily injury. In court yesterday, Deputy District Attorney Joyce Dudley dropped those charges.

Each of the defendants faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail and probation.
