This weekend, UC Santa Barbara will host the 2011 Big West Championship Tournament for women’s water polo. After finishing the season ranked No. 16 in the nation with a record of 16-11 overall and 3-2 in conference, the Gauchos received the third seed in the tournament and will face sixth-seeded Long Beach State in the second game of the tournament.
The No. 16 UCSB women’s water polo team split their final two games of the regular season over the weekend, holding off a late surge to beat CSU Long Beach 8-7 Saturday before losing 11-5 to No. 10 UC Irvine on Sunday.
The #15 UCSB women’s water polo team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, falling to CSU Northridge 8-7. The Gauchos’ record moves to 19-9 and 2-1 in the conference. Cal Baptist was the team’s second opponent of the day.
The #14 UCSB women’s water polo team pushed its winning streak to five after sweeping its first two conference games of the season over the weekend, beating both #18 Pacific and UC Davis by the same 9-5 margin.
The UCSB women’s water polo team will play its final two home games of the regular season this weekend, opening conference play against Pacific on Saturday and UC Davis on Sunday. The team will then go on the road for four more games before returning home to host the Big West Tournament.
