Regents Discuss Student Affairs at Last Meeting of Academic Year

The meeting of the University of California Regents resumed for its final session yesterday morning and discussed the financial status of UC Medical Centers and the UC Office of the President Budget following a public comment session that touched on a variety of issues including student internships, staff-to-student ratios and controversy surrounding the failure of a UCLA Associated Students resolution to divest from companies who do business with Israel.

Members of Fossil Free UC set up a protest to discourage relations with fossil fuel companies at the UC Regents meeting in Sacramento. The demonstrators chanted slogans calling for a task force and interrupted the meeting throughout the day.

Fossil Free UC Protests During Regents Meeting

The UC-wide fossil fuel divestment group Fossil Free UC, or FFUC, staged a protest at yesterday’s UC Regents meeting in Sacramento, demanding University officials create a task force addressing the UC’s business relations with fossil fuel companies.

Yesterday’s Regents meeting, which covered sexual assault, finances and more, will continue today.

Regents Meet, Review Financial Plans, Student Issues

After a public forum session featuring protests from fossil fuel divestment advocates and other grievances from students and faculty, the UC Board of Regents discussed a plan to streamline the transfer process from California Community Colleges to the UC, Department of Energy Laboratory biomanufacturing and Long Range Development Plans for the Richmond Bay Campus and UC Santa Barbara.

This summer, construction will start on a three-story, 48,000 square foot bioengineering building between Davidson Library and the Psychology building.

New Bioengineering Building To Be Built

The UC Office of the President has secured funding for a new bioengineering building to be erected on campus between Davidson Library and the Psychology building, with construction scheduled to begin this summer.
