When tear-gassed strangers came stumbling down Pasado Road, lost and confused after the Deltopia riots, local parks official and 30-year Isla Vista resident Pegeen Soutar did more than offer them washcloths and water. As a member of the Isla Vista Parks and Recreation District, she thought about the future of community voice in the governing of Isla Vista.

The Isla Vista Tenants Union takes action against the local business that contributed to the influx of “out-of-towners” that attended this year’s Deltopia.

The camera towers placed along Del Playa Drive and Embarcadero Del Norte in the days leading up to Deltopia cost the University about $8,000, although a final price has not been agreed upon, and they were placed on public property and moderated by Santa Barbara County law enforcement.


A.S. Senate Discuss Involvement in USSA, Divestment, Deltopia

Wednesday night’s Associated Student Senate meeting focused on the controversial bill to withdraw funding from the United States Students Association, the upcoming divestment debate and the future of Deltopia, amongst other topics.
