With ‘For Rent’ signs slapped on almost every house or apartment in Isla Vista, thousands of students are now joining the annual housing rush that begins around the end of every Fall Quarter and beginning of every Winter. During this time, a swarm of UCSB students phone landlords, knock on doors and scramble to fill out paperwork to claim anything from a dream house on the ocean side of Del Playa Drive to a cozy little apartment on Picasso.
Officers with the Isla Vista Foot Patrol and UC Police Department arrested three suspects in Isla Vista early Saturday morning for rape in concert, after a witness reported a woman being sexually assaulted on the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde Road.
Isla Vista Foot Patrol responded to several disturbances over the first weekend of winter quarter, issuing three citations for minor in possession of alcohol, six tickets for having an open container and one citation for driving under the influence, amongst some other charges.
UCSB Police Department’s Rape Aggression Defense program began again this quarter, with its first series of classes beginning yesterday and continuing through January 21.
