Southern California Edison will shut down all power on the UC Santa Barbara campus between late Saturday night and mid-Sunday afternoon for “critical maintenance,” according to a message sent out by the campus’s technology services early Monday morning. 

The electrical company will be performing work on the university’s power transmissions systems, according to the email. The work will take approximately 12 hours and will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.

These outages will include the majority of university buildings on- and off-campus, all freshmen dorms – including Santa Catalina – and a number of university apartments. Faculty housing located on the Ocean Walk and West Campus apartments will not be affected. 

The majority of students aren’t currently living on campus and won’t move into the dorms until the weekend of Sept. 19 through Sept. 22. All dining commons will lose power as well.
