A 20-year-old Sacramento man fell from the bluffs on the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive late Saturday night.
The man was attending a party in Isla Vista when he lost his balance on the cliff and initially slid down the cliff and then fell onto the beach. Witnesses pulled the man from the water before first responders arrived, according to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) spokesperson Kelly Hoover.
Santa Barbara County deputies and firefighters were met with a crowd surrounding the man, before using “a high angle rope rescue” to pull the man from the beach, Hoover said in a press release sent out on Sunday.
Paramedics transferred him to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries that he is expected to recover from. Police believe alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
