A 19-year-old male Santa Barbara City College student was assaulted by six assailants in Isla Vista early Sunday morning, according to police.

The victim, who is enrolled for his first year at Santa Barbara City College (SBCC), sustained “moderate injuries” when he was attacked by six unidentified Hispanic males while at a party on the 6600 block of Pasado Road.

The attack came after the victim “attempted to strike up a conversation” with a Hispanic male with short black hair, according to a press release sent out by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) Lieutenant Kevin Huddle.

Police responded at approximately 12:15 a.m., but the assailants left the area before deputies arrived.

The victim was then transported to Goleta Valley Hospital for treatment.

The six assailants are in their late teens to early twenties and were wearing tank tops at the time of the attack, Huddle said.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. SBSO requests anyone with information relevant to this incident to call (805) 683-2724.
