PROTECT YOUR MOTHER

Are you interested in protecting the environment and learning about the consequences of human effects on earth’s resources? If so, come to Bren Hall 1414 on Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to watch a free screening of the film “Protect” and engage in a discussion with a number of environmental advocates including members of the Chumash Tribe. The event is hosted by the Santa Barbara Standing Rock Coalition and will inform students on efforts to protect land, water and air resources.

INTO INDUS

Indus, UC Santa Barbara’s South Asian Cultural Organization, is hosting a showcase Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m in Campbell Hall. The showcase is called Vision and will include a plethora of performances of the South Asian culture, including Bollywood, Bhangra and a fashion show. Samosas will be available for sale during intermission and admittance is free for everyone. Come out Friday to support Indus!

WORD UP! 

WORD Magazine is holding their annual music and arts festival this Saturday, May 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Rincon Brewery in I.V. The festival will include live performances from Odd Army at 1 p.m., funk, hip-hop and rock ‘n’ roll band Backwood Bishops at 1:40 p.m. and indie rock band Frisson at 2:20 p.m. There will also be tie-dye stations, henna artists, face painters and artists from WORD Magazine drawing caricatures. And on top of all that, the event is free!

BEACH BASH 

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Student Branch at UCSB is hosting their annual end of the year beach BBQ Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Goleta Beach. There will be hot dogs and frisbees as students are able to celebrate the school year coming to a close. RSVP on Facebook by noon on Friday, May 18 to attend.

BROS AND BALLADS

UCSB’s all male a capella group, Brothas from Otha Mothas, are hosting their prom-themed spring concert Saturday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in I.V. Theater. They will be performing covers of songs as well as doing a senior dance. Tickets are $5 at the door or $4.50 using the link on BFOM’s Spring Concert Facebook Page.

EXTRAVAGANZA

One of A.S. Program Board’s most anticipated events is happening this Sunday, May 20 from 1 p.m. to 6 pm. Extravaganza’s 2018 lineup includes DJ Dillon Francis as the headliner, Charli XCX, DRAM and Coast Modern. Vendors in the stadium will also be selling food. Stop by the Harder Stadium in Isla Vista this weekend!

FREE FILMS

A.S. Program Board is presenting a free showing of “Game Night” in I.V. Theater on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This hilariously funny and action-packed movie follows a night in the life of Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams), a game-loving couple who get unsuspectedly involved in a real-life mystery they believe to be a part of an intricate game night.

DELTACAKES

If the sound of all-you-can-eat pancakes makes your mouth water, be sure to attend Tri Delta’s House of Pancake charity event. On Wednesday, May 23, there will be unlimited pancakes at the Tri Delta chapter house on 6547 Cordoba Road for people who purchase tickets which are $7 at the door or $5 for presale. All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
