A 19-year-old UC Santa Barbara student was arrested Wednesday night on charges of stalking, according to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office.
The UC Santa Barbara Police Department arrested Minh Nguyen at San Rafael Residence Hall at approximately 11:48 p.m. Wednesday night, according to Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) arrest records.
Nguyen was booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of stalking and for “annoying repeated calls to residence,” according to SBSO. Nguyen was booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail on a bail of $150,000.
UCPD sent out a timely alert Thursday evening about a reported stalking that occurred on the UCSB campus between July 2017 and May 2018.
A victim was “repeatedly sent harassing emails” from the suspect “despite her requests for him to stop,” according to the alert. The victim knew the suspect through common friends.
The suspect in the alert was described as a UCSB student who is 5’5”, weighs 130 lbs. and has black hair.
UCPD received information regarding the stalking on Tuesday.
It is not confirmed that Nguyen and the suspect described in the UCPD timely alert are the same person.
