FIRST FRIDAY

A.S. Program Board will be hosting this week’s First Friday, featuring Monte Booker. There will be free Woodstocks, art, activities and games. Monte Booker blends hip hop, percussion-heavy electronic sounds and R&B; his newest releases feature Smino and Ravyn Lenae, as well as the single “Mona Lisa.” The event will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in People’s Park.

I, TONYA

Magic Lantern Films will be showing “I, Tonya” at I.V. Theater on Friday at 7 and 10 p.m. The movie was released on Dec. 8 and stars Margot Robbie as Tonya Harding, Sebastian Stan as Jeff Gillooly and Allison Janney as Harding’s mother. Tickets are $4 and free snacks will be offered. The movie will also be shown on Monday at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

BEACH CLEAN-UP

Give back to the Earth this Saturday and help UCSB Adventure Programs cleanup Sands Beach. There will be free snacks and good music. Organizers urge anyone to stop by, whether for an hour or just ten minutes. They will be meeting at the bluff on the end of 68 Del Playa Drive, where they will be handing out trash bags and grapplers. The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon.

GREEN CHEF

This Saturday, strap on an apron and get ready for Environmental Affairs Board’s Green Chef, a vegan cooking competition. This quarter’s secret ingredient: cinnamon. Participants should try to incorporate cinnamon in the dish. All participants will receive a $5 I.V. Food Co-op gift card for participating. Participants have the opportunity to win prizes as well as try some delicious food. Contestants must enter ahead of time on the sign-up sheet, which can be found on the Facebook event. The competition will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Co-op.

NAMASTAY

The Isla Vista Food Co-op and Yoga Isla Vista will be holding a $5 Beach Brunch Yoga on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants should meet at the Co-op patio at 9:45 a.m. before walking over to the bluffs at 10 a.m. Drop-ins are not welcome, and those who wish to sign up can reserve one of the available 35 spots with a cashier at the co-op or call the store at (80)968-1401 by Feb. 24. For those worried about signing up but not being able to make it, have no fear: If you cancel on Saturday you will get refunded in the form of a gift card. Following the hour-long yoga session, the group will head back to the co-op for a build-a-bowl acai brunch.

SELF DEFENSE

The Associated Students Commission on Student Wellbeing is hosting a self-defense class on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Participants will learn proper striking and kicking skills and will have the chance to feel the burn with strength and circuit training. The class will be taught by Santa Barbara Krav Maga, and participants can cool down afterwards with free Blenders smoothies.

COCO

The A.S. Program Board is hosting a screening of “Coco” in I.V. Theatre on Tuesday, Feb. 27  from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. “Coco” is about a young boy named Miguel who dreams of becoming a musician. He ends up going to the Land of the Dead and learning about his family’s history. Do not forget to bring your access card!
