FIRST SAFETY STATION

The Isla Vista Community Services District and the UC Police Department will be launching their expanded escort program this Friday at Little Acorn Park from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Community service officers (CSOs) will be stationed at the park offering escorts to all residents who request the service, including Santa Barbara City College students and non-student I.V. residents. Escorts will walk or bike you to your home no matter how close or far you live free-of-charge.

 

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM

The Isla Vista Food Cooperative will be hosting an ice cream tasting for the plant-based, gluten-free, all-vegan ice cream brand Reveri from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Co-op’s building next to the Isla Vista Recreation & Park District. The Co-op will be tasting three flavors including “Field of Green,” “Chocolate Forest” and “Strawberry Patch.” This event is free to the public.

 

LAUGH UNTIL YOU DROP

Improvability will be hosting a Halloween-themed comedy show this Friday from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Embarcadero Hall. The spooky comedy troupe will be giving out free candy so the group recommends arriving early at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the door.

 

HAUNT THE LOOP

The Associated Students Office of the External Vice President for Local Affairs will be hosting a trick-or-treating event at the Loop near Anisq’Oyo Park from 4 to 6 p.m this Saturday. Trick-or-treaters can pick up a map of the participating places giving out candy at the Pardall Center. This event is free and open to children and university students.

 

HELP A NEIGHBOR                                                          

UC Isla Vista (UCIV), a volunteer program from the A.S. Public Safety Commission, invites members of the public to join them in warning residents about the noise ordinance so they may avoid citations, informing residents of resources available during Halloween and providing water. UCIV will provide volunteers a free meal, shirt and other items during their volunteer shift. UCIV meets Friday, Saturday and Monday nights at 9 p.m. in the Pardall Center and volunteers through the evening until midnight.

 

SAFE SPACE

A.S. Take Back the Night will host a safe space on the second floor of the Pardall Center for any who feel harassed or triggered during Halloween. The space will be open on Friday, Saturday and Monday nights from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The A.S. Pardall Center will also host a “Chill Out Space” on the first floor of the Pardall Center for students looking for an alternative place to spend their Halloweekend. The area is also be open Friday, Saturday and Monday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.


MEATLESS SUNDAY

A local group called Food Not Bombs will serve free vegan food at 5 p.m. Sunday at Little Acorn Park (next to Bagel Cafe). Food Not Bombs is a large organization that spans the country and is a form of “franchise activism.” They believe that corporate and government priorities are skewed and allow hunger despite the abundance of food and food waste. Those interested in cooking for Sunday can email organizers at foodnotbombsislavista@gmail.com or look for more information on the Food Not Bombs – Isla Vista Facebook page. The dinner is regularly held every Sunday.
