ICE ICE BABY

Ice in Paradise

Friday 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Double the fun this weekend with Ice in Paradise and the UCSB hockey team. The hockey team’s weekend opening game is Friday at 7 p.m. After the game, fans can strap on some skates and groove to live music from A Flock of Cougars for a late-night skate party. The party goes from 10 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free for students with an access card and general admission is $5 at the door.

FOWL PLAY

6508 Del Playa

Friday at 9:30 p.m.

What would Isla Vista be without its myriad of bands? Hopefully we never have to find out. The Mallards, an alternative rock band, finished their first album and is inviting you to celebrate with them Friday night at 6508 Del Playa. The Mallards will play at 10:30 p.m. with a surprise opener playing at 9:30 p.m. Crack open a beer with some friends and enjoy.

DIRTY DANCING

Friday 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.

No one will be putting Baby in a corner on Friday night! The UCSB Del Playa Dancing Events is hosting Latin Friday on DP with bachata, reggaeton and salsa dancing. Participants can dance and socialize at this event from 10 p.m. to midnight on the ocean patio at 6613 Del Playa Drive. Event coordinators encourage attendees to bring drinks.

MISGUIDED

Thursday 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Zaena and Jason Maek, an electronic music duo, will be throwing a one-day pop-up shop on Thursday with exclusive products from I.V.’s Missguided. The music duo is promoting their new album, Freshman. DJ SkyRockit will be playing music all day, and participants can enjoy free giveaways from brands like Lyft, Pier 1 Imports, DIFF Eyewear, KIND Snacks, Sole Bicycles and StudentUniverse. The shop will be on the rooftop of ICON apartments from 12 to 7 p.m. After the shop closes, there will be a silent disco listening party with Zaena and Jason Maek, including a meet and greet with the artists from 8 to 10 p.m.

EASY BREEZY 

Isla Vista Food Co-op

Sunday at 10 a.m.

Beach Brunch Yoga is back again, with 35 spots for yogis available this Sunday. The event includes an hour-long yoga session on the bluffs overlooking the ocean followed by a light brunch. A poll on the event page suggests there will be a build-your-own acai bowl planned for brunch this weekend. Those going should meet at the Isla Vista Food Cooperative patio at 9:45 a.m. to leave for yoga at 10 a.m. Interested participants can go to the Co-op or call (805) 968-1401 to sign up. Attendance costs $5 and can be paid in cash or credit. Drop-ins are not accepted.

A ROYAL ADVENTURE

Knapp’s Castle

Sunday 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Join the Isla Vista Student Ministry this Sunday for a sunset trip to Knapp’s Castle free for students with an access card. The trip includes transportation as well as a stop at the Painted Cave, if parking permits. There will be a 20-minute walk on a mountain trail. Organizers urge students to wear solid shoes and bring a jacket and camera. Those interested can meet at 880 Camino Del Sur, Bldg A. Suite 101/102 at 4:30 p.m. The trip will conclude around 7 p.m.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

I.V. Community Room

Tuesday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Isla Vista Community Service District (CSD) will host their first open house at the I.V. Community Room on Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. Attendees can meet with the CSD board members to discuss local issues and get involved with the community. The I.V. Community Center is located at 970 Embarcadero Del Mar.

TENANTS RIGHTS

Pardall Center

Wednesday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Isla Vista Tenants Union will be hosting a workshop next Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Pardall Center to educate community members about tenants’ rights to privacy, landlord conduct and landlords’ rights to entry. Robin Unander, the attorney from the Legal Resource Center, will also be conducting a Q & A to answer any questions attendees may have. Free pizza will be provided.
