IF YOU’RE NOT FIRST … YOU’RE LAST

Associated Student Program Board is hosting Isla Vista First Friday on Friday, Oct. 6, from 8 to 11 p.m. in People’s Park. The event will host music from Billie Eilish, a 15-year old artist who calls her music genre “gloom pop.” Thutmose will open for Eilish. This free night out will include Woodstock’s Pizza, games and good company at the park in the heart of I.V.

SURF’S UP

The UCSB Surf Team is hosting tryouts at Camino Pescadero Park on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The team is looking for those who can surf men’s shortboard, women’s shortboard and co-ed longboard. The surf team hopefuls can tryout for more than one team and can sign up for two different events if they surf both longboard and shortboard. The team will hold tryouts rain or shine.

RIDE OR DIE

Do you own a bike and want to see the sights of Isla Vista? Well, Saturday is your lucky day. The Isla Vista Recreation & Park District (IVRPD) will be holding their annual bike park tour on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bikers can ride through Isla Vista and admire its 25 public parks, as well as offer input to the IVRPD about how to improve the parks. Participants should meet at the IVRPD at 961 Embarcadero del Mar.

MEATLESS SUNDAY

A local group called Food Not Bombs will serve free vegan food at 5 p.m. Sunday at Little Acorn Park (next to Bagel Cafe). Food Not Bombs is a large organization that spans the country and is a form of “franchise activism.” They believe that corporate and government priorities are skewed and allow hunger despite the abundance of food and food waste. Those interested in cooking for Sunday can email organizers at foodnotbombsislavista@gmail.com. The dinner is regularly held every Sunday.

CINEMA IN THE SUKKA

The Santa Barbara Hillel is hosting “Cinema in the Sukka” on Monday, Oct. 9, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a movie under the stars while munching on popcorn. Bring your own blanket to this evening flick.

SHAKES IN THE SHACK

Flavor meets desire in the milkshake. The UC Santa Barbara Chabad is hosting “Shakes in the Shack” on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m at the Sukka at 799 Camino Pescadero Road. Attendees can make their own milkshakes and smoothies and play some games with the organization.

SWEET TOOTH

October is fair trade month! To celebrate, the Isla Vista Food Cooperative will host an Alter-Eco Chocolate Tasting on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. Alter-Eco is a French-based company that produces only fair trade products. Participants can taste five of the company’s tasty chocolates.

CULTURE SHOCK

What’s better than aged milk? Nothing! The Isla Vista Food Cooperative is hosting a Good Culture Demo on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. Participants can try samples of good culture organic cottage cheese with live and active cultures.
