Isla Vista Foot Patrol officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in I.V. Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m., but were not able to locate the suspect or the alleged weapon.

A witness reported four males engaged in a fight on the 1000 block of El Embarcadero near 7-Eleven, and said one male lifted his shirt and allegedly pulled a handgun out of his waistband, according to Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Kelly Hoover.

The witness said the suspect put the handgun back in his waistband shortly after and left the area with the other three males in a grey car going southbound on El Embarcadero. He then saw the vehicle turn right on Del Playa Drive away from campus and pull into a driveway, Hoover said.

When IVFP officers contacted the witness after the call, the witness left the area to go class and could not direct officers to a specific house. IVFP officers could not locate the vehicle or a suspect after searching the area.

During an interview with IVFP approximately 30 minutes after the incident, the witness described the suspect as a Hispanic male adult approximately six feet tall, 180-220 pounds with a buzz-cut and brown hair, possibly wearing an oversized grey shirt and blue jeans.

The witness described the gun as a semi-automatic with a black handle and a silver top section.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department requests anyone with information regarding the incident to call 805-683-2724.
