Last week (Oct. 19-26), law enforcement officials responded to reports of a residential explosion, multiple residential burglaries and a fight.

On Monday, Oct. 19, an oxygen tank exploded on the ground level of Friendship Manor’s D Building on El Colegio Road. The first floor was filled with smoke and several subjects evacuated the building. The explosion injured at least one person.

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, at approximately 7:20 p.m., a suspect entered an apartment on Cordoba Road through an unlocked front door. The man, believed to be under the influence of drugs, was heard uttering “girls, girls,” to two women who live at the residence. The suspect fled the scene when one of the women produced a pepper spray canister. Witnessed described the suspect as a Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years of age, chubby, with black hair in a buzz cut.

On Friday, Oct. 23, residents on Pasado Road flagged down an IVFP deputy to report a drunken stranger who entered their house and tried to steal bananas from the kitchen. When the deputy arrived, the suspect had already left. However, the deputy received multiple reports along the same street with similar observations. The same night, a UCSB student located on the corner of Trigo Road and Camino Lindo was taken into custody for public intoxication.

Also on Friday, deputies responded to reports of a fight at a residence on the 6500 block of Trigo Road. Upon law enforcement’s arrival, all parties involved in the fight appeared to still be at the residence, including a man who was unconscious and bleeding on the ground. Several intoxicated people, all of whom declined to identify themselves, claimed to know what happened, but none provided details. The unconscious man was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, deputies responded to another residential burglary that occurred between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The suspect forced entry into the victim’s house on Trigo Road by pushing an air conditioning unit through a window. The victim reported that her silver 13-inch MacBook Air and charger were stolen from the top of her desk. No suspect description was provided.

On Sunday, Oct. 25, UC Police Department officers responded to a report of a possible drunk driver on Fortuna Road. The reporting party said an intoxicated male subject almost struck an object while driving. The suspect exited the vehicle when law enforcement arrived on scene. The suspect received a DUI, and was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail after registering .25 BAC in a breathalyzer.
