This weekend, the UCSB softball team will take its talents to Reno, Nevada to compete in its last road tournament of this long stretch of away games that started early February.

Entering their fourth consecutive weekend on the road, the Gauchos are sitting on a record of 11-5, which tops the rest of the Big West teams during their non-conference play.

In this Nevada Classic, Santa Barbara will play in five games against two different opponents. These matches consist of three matchups with Seattle University and two with the hosting Nevada University.

The Seattle University Redhawks will not be a team to overlook this weekend as they enter Nevada on a seven-game win streak. Seattle comes into the tournament with an overall record of 10-11 and a 7-10 record while playing in neutral locations.

The Redhawks have strived off of a powerful offense so far this season. As a team, Seattle has a substantial batting average of .300 and has knocked in 106 RBI’s. They are led offensively by junior infielder Lisa Maulden, who has recorded a batting average of .426, an on base percentage of .508 and four homeruns, all of which rank first or are tied for first on the team.

The Nevada University Wolf Pack comes into their own tournament with a record of 10-7 overall. This weekend’s games will be the team’s first home outing as it has been on the road until this point. This will be the second time that Nevada has played the Gauchos this season; the Gauchos won the first matchup 6-4. That loss to Santa Barbara started the two game losing streak that they are currently riding.

The Wolf Pack has made their living this season on the offensive side as well. They have recorded four games this season in which they have scored 10 or more runs, including a 20-run game against BYU. While playing the Gauchos last week, they did not hide this part of their game at all as Sophomore Amanda Weis was able to deliver a three-run shot on the Gaucho’s ace, junior pitcher Shelby Wisdom.

Santa Barbara is set to start off the tournament Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. against Seattle. They will have two matchups against each team on Saturday and Sunday.
