On Tuesday night, Isla Vista Foot Patrol responded to a call at 5:30 p.m. from a witness who reported seeing two male suspects assault another male at the 6600 block of Abrego Road.

The victim, who received minor injuries in altercation, then called to confirm the assault and added that the attackers stole his new iPhone. In the process, however, one of the suspects dropped his own phone, according to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover. The dropped phone was then taken in as evidence.

Based on the victim’s descriptions of the attackers, police arrested SBCC students and roommates Starr Martin, age 21, of Virginia, and Aaron Cuthbert, age 18, of Palmdale later in the day. Although Martin was apprehended without incident, Cuthbert was taken into custody after fighting the deputies and leading them on a half-hour chase. As a result, Cuthbert has been charged with resisting arrest and giving false information to a police officer.

Both suspects have also been charged with robbery and conspiracy.
