In-N-Out is synonymous with an amazingly delicious burger. That would explain how up until this past year, the Habit has always evaded my attention. In my mind, no other burger could top the juicy, savory quality that could only be produced by the SoCal-spawned, family-owned chain easily identified by two crossed palms. No matter how many great things people told me about the Habit, I would forever be in love with In-N-Out burgers.

I was completely wrong.

The Habit might be the most amazing thing to hit I.V. in a long time. Strategically placed between Freebirds, Subway and Starbucks, the Habit is a college student’s perfect fix for their lunchtime munchies. For instance, Freebirds seems to be especially delicious when hungover on the weekends (not that I would have any knowledge of that…). Subway is for late-night studying and Starbucks is for those slow Monday mornings … or Tuesdays … or Wednesdays … Therefore, it is a simple choice. Nothing beats the Habit for lunch.

So since trying the Habit, I will not deviate from my usual meal: Charburger with bacon and avocado with a side of onion rings. It may simply be the best combination of flavors out there.

Most. Perfect. Meal. Ever.

Although nothing will ever top my love for that burger and onion rings, I decided to test out a few of their other items in the spirit of experimentation. I was pleasantly surprised by their Chicken Club Sandwich, Veggie Burger and Sweet Potato Fries. The chicken was succulent and well-seasoned, and the avocado blended perfectly with the bacon, creating the perfect, refreshing chicken sandwich.

What really stood out to me was the quality of the Veggie Burger. It is often very difficult to find a good veggie patty that creates the ideal blend of vegetables and taste. The Habit did not disappoint. The burger was hearty and left me quite satisfied.

Overall, the Habit is undoubtedly the place to grab a quick bite to eat. Their juicy burgers easily beat their top competitors. Not to mention their sandwiches, salads, sides and shakes are above par as well.

With 64 locations throughout California and Arizona, it’s about time that the Habit, a chain that was founded in Santa Barbara, finally made its way into I.V.

The Habit is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. Check them out at 888 Embarcadero del Norte #C.
