The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office arrested two women last month for their suspected involvement in 26-year-old Santa Barbara resident, Vincent Velasquez’s murder last May.

Twenty-year-old Benjamin Vargas is on trial for stabbing Velasquez to death on the 6600 block of Abrego Road in the early hours of Sunday, May 15, 2011. According to yesterday’s press release, investigators have been searching for a female accomplice since apprehending Vargas.

Vargas’ 21-year-old girlfriend Karen Medina and 29-year-old sister Maria Vargas are suspected of assaulting the victim and driving the car Benjamin Vargas took to flee the scene, respectively.

Deputies booked the suspects at the Santa Barbara County Jail on Oct. 21 following a formal indictment — unsealed Nov. 22 by a Santa Barbara Grand Jury — labeling them as accessories to the homicide. Medina and Vargas posted their $500,000 bail for release the following Friday, Oct. 28.
