Gaucho women’s basketball lost at the Thunderdome on Saturday night in an emotional double-overtime game to Idaho, 64-63.

Down by one with fewer than 10 seconds left, UCSB junior guard Emilie Johnson narrowly missed a last second three pointer to secure the victory for the Vandals. The Gauchos’ record now stands at 0-4, after consecutive defeats in overtime and double overtime.

“Obviously any time you lose a game this way it’s brutal. It’s brutal for the players, and it’s brutal for the coaches,” Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb said. “What I told the players in the locker room is that I’d go to work with this team any night. The thing I’m most proud of is the way we fought.”

Junior guard Kelsey Adrian led the Gauchos in scoring with 13 points, adding nine assists. Sophomore forward Sweets Underwood posted a double double with 12 points and 13 rebounds off the bench.

“I feel as if I’m getting more aggressive as far as just going to the basket,” Underwood said. “I think that is one of the biggest parts of my game. Hopefully I can keep that consistency and stay aggressive on the boards as far as put backs.”

UCSB’s next game is on Sunday, Nov. 28 at the Thunderdome against Northern Colorado.
