The highly anticipated meet against the Cal Poly Mustangs at Campus Pool proved to be a strong one for UCSB, as both the men and women’s swimming and diving teams finished the duel meet with an overall victory. The women won with a score of 157-141, while the UCSB men finished with a score of 155-141.

“All the kids stepped up,” Head Coach Gregg Wilson said. “We swam flat-out fast.”

Junior Kevin Ferguson for the men’s team and sophomore Katie Stover were two of UCSB’s multiple-event winners. Ferguson placed first overall in the 100-meter breaststroke, and also earned the event’s fourth-fastest time in the nation at 55.48. Stover won the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke.

UCSB had a seven-point lead for the women and just a five point lead for the men as heading into the final event, the 400-meter freestyle relay, but both the men and the women placed first in the event.

“Overall a very good meet,” Wilson said.
