The UCSB women’s volleyball team recorded its second straight win on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep over Cal State Northridge. The victory gives the Gauchos an overall record of 13-9 with a 6-2 record in Big West play.

UCSB is currently ranked second overall in the Big West behind top-ranked Cal State Fullerton.

The team dominated the first two sets 25-19 and 25-13. In the third set, CSUN played with a sense of urgency, managing to stay within two points of the Gauchos for the first 30 serves. The Gauchos’ biggest lead came at 20-15, but the Matadors tied the game at 24.

“We have to prove that we can withstand a team tying us,” Head Coach Kathy Gregory said. “They gave us a lot of points in the second game, and we had to stand up and earn one.” UCSB scored the next two points in a row coming out of the timeout, and ended the third set with a score of 26-24.

After winning both of its weekend matches, the Gauchos face UC Riverside on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Thunderdome.

“We went to work this weekend, and it came out in our favor,” senior setter Dana Vargas said. “Riverside can’t be taken lightly, we have to be ready for them.”
