Did he think it was open?

Sun. April 18, 1:57 a.m. — Uniformed bike patrol officers spotted a fight brewing in a driveway on the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive early Sunday morning.

When deputies pulled up, they observed two subjects shoving a partier toward the street while shouting, “Just go home!” The 22-year-old SBCC student attempted to fight off his two opponents by swinging his fists wildly, but officers noted that not a single one of his punches actually connected.

Isla Vista’s finest approached the floundering fighter and forced him to the ground. After being subdued, he shouted, “That’s my best friend!” in the direction of the driveway.

Deputies spoke with nearby subjects and residents of the downstairs unit, who noted that the belligerent brawler had ignited the fight when he hoisted a bicycle through the downstairs sliding glass door, successfully smashing it to pieces.

Officers believed that the unarmed assailant needed to be detained to prevent further disturbance of the peace, and he was arrested and transported to the Santa Barbara County Jail.
