The 5th Annual Santa Barbara Human Rights Film Festival kicks off this Thursday, offering four nights of award-winning international filmmaking focused on human rights topics.

A selection of acclaimed international films will be screened in Campbell Hall on four nights throughout the month, beginning on Thurs., April 8 at 7 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. The later showings are scheduled for Thurs., April 15, Thurs., April 22 and Mon., April 26, each at 7 and 9 p.m. Each evening will feature a different film program.

The festival line-up includes “Burma VJ,” winner of more than 40 international awards, as well as international festival favorites “Encounter Point and Garbage Dreams.” Additionally, on April 22, Oscar-winning director Megan Mylan will attend the screening of her documentary short “Smile Pinki,” which won an Academy Award.

The festival is presented by UCSB Arts & Lectures, The Fund for Santa Barbara and Human Rights Watch Santa Barbara Committee and sponsored by the Santa Barbara Independent and KCSB 91.9 F.M.

Evening passes for one or all films screened per night are $8 for UCSB students and $10 for the general public and Festival Passes good for admission to all films are $16 for UCSB students and $20 for the general public.
