The Isla Vista Foot Patrol responded to instances of drug use, drug sales and domestic violence over the weekend.

Officers made three arrests and issued a total of 40 citations over President’s Day Weekend. All three arrests were made on Saturday night.

According to Lt. Erik Raney, the long weekend did not have a significant impact on crime in I.V.

“This was a typical weekend for us,” Raney said. “We usually see this kind of stuff happen.”

The first arrest involved a male suspect who was attempting to sell narcotics near an illegally parked van on Madrid Road. After questioning, the owner of the vehicle admitted to possessing hash.

A police search revealed that the suspect’s backpack was filled with packaged hash balls, which the offender said he planned to sell in order to obtain money for gas and food. Officers also determined that there were multiple local and out-of-county warrants issued for the suspect and placed him under arrest.

The second arrest occurred after deputies spotted a male exhibiting signs of narcotics use leaving a party on the 6800 block of Fortuna Road. The suspect was caught placing a small bag of white powder on the ground as officers walked by. When questioned, the male admitted he had used cocaine that was given to him at the party.

The IVFP later responded to a report of domestic assault on the 6700 block of Abrego Road. Upon arrival, officers witnessed a dispute between a couple living at the residence. Blood was present on both parties and the young woman displayed clear signs of physical abuse.

Police were told that the male suspect had broken a window and slapped his partner. The officers detained and arrested the man after he denied them entry to the residence.
