Yesterday afternoon, a giant tree trunk fell down near the tunnel by UCSB Student Health.

The tree, which fell sometime between 2 and 2:45 p.m., had to be removed from the bike path just outside of the tunnel connecting Picasso Road to the Thunderdome. According to Physical Facilities Director Jackie Treadway, the tree was cut by an outside vendor and removed by about 5:30 p.m. because it was too large for her department to take away.

“In general [the cost to remove a tree like this] is anywhere from $2,500 to $3,000,” Treadway said.

No one reported being injured by the tree’s fall.
