The UCSB women’s basketball team cruised to a big 64-51 victory over UC Davis on Thursday night, marking its eighth consecutive victory.

The Gauchos (11-6, 6-0 Big West) took a commanding lead midway through the first half, on a run that started with the score at 10-10. After that, UCSB began tearing apart the Aggies, scoring 19 points to Davis’ two in the span. With a 17 point lead, Santa Barbara never looked back, and easily picked up another conference win.

“Credit the coaches because we watched film and talked about (what Davis does) over and over again,” senior point guard Sha’Rae Gibbons said. “[Head Coach Lindsay Gottlieb] is super intelligent when it comes to basketball,” she continued. “I don’t know a coach that can do it better.”

Gibbons had a fine night for herself as well, notching 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists. She was joined in double-figures by senior guard Lauren Pedersen and freshman guard Emilie Johnson, with 15 and 10 points respectively.

Up next for the Gauchos are the Pacific Tigers, who sport a 4-2 conference record and should prove to be a challenging foe. That game is on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Thunderdome.
